Why does a person need to consume vitamin D?

Vitamin D or the sunshine vitamin is a vitamin that the body needs to help maintain a healthy lifestyle both in terms of the physical and the mental. It has been linked to multiple health benefits in both the mind and the body.

A person can absorb Vitamin D naturally through sunlight, but if you find yourself not getting enough exposure to the sun, Vitamin D can also be taken as a supplement or exists in certain foods such as eggs, cheese, and certain types of fatty fish like mackerel or salmon.

Vitamin D may be overlooked at times as health smart people focus their efforts more on Vitamin A, or Vitamin E, but Vitamin D is just as important in the maintenance of one’s health.

In one study, subjects suffering from depression received Vitamin D reported a marked change in their mental condition. People often associate rainy, stormy weather with a bad mood and sunny weather with a good mood. Perhaps it should be considered that this is because of Vitamin D. Naturally Vitamin D comes from the sun, and people generally feel better when it is sunny out, thus this change in mood could be from the nourishment the vitamin provides via the sun.

In some studies, the lack of this vitamin has resulted in a higher risk of multiple cancers including breast cancer, prostate cancer, and colon cancer. It also shows a higher risk for diseases/medical issues such as autoimmune disease, high blood pressure, chronic pain, diabetes, and neuromuscular diseases.

Some studies have even shown that an increase in Vitamin D by the mother can help to prevent or reduce the risk of autism in the child.

SLOWS DOWN/PREVENTS CERTAIN TYPES OF CANCERS:

 

An increase in Vitamin D has shown to help slow down the growth of several different types of cancer. A study done by Torrent Pharmaceuticals LTD has shown a clear connection between lower levels of Vitamin D and an increase in the risk of cancer.

Averaging the experiments done throughout the years, it is determined that those individuals with optimal levels of Vitamin D have over a 22% lower chance of developing any type of cancer.
